Nellist NILS OMSTED, Plantation Cashier. Coming to Hawaii in 1883, Nils Omsted was engaged in the retail merchandise trade until August, 1919, when he assumed his present position as cashier of the Haiku Fruit & Packing Co., Ltd., operating on the Island of Maui. From 1889 to 1893 he was manager of the Paia store, and from 1893 to 1900 he was manager of the store at Hana, Maui. For the next nineteen years Mr. Omsted served as postmaster at Hana, and from 1907 to 1916 he also owned and operated the Mokulau ranch. Born in Drammen, Norway, April 19, 1864, Mr. Omsted is the son of Nils G. and Laura D. Omsted. He attended the public and high schools in Norway. In 1901 he married Emma Rose Akana.
