Nellist HENRY PETER O’SULLIVAN, Manager War Veterans’ Bureau. Assisting in an important branch of post-war reconstruction work, Henry P. O’Sullivan is manager of the Hawaii sub-district of the United State Veterans’ Bureau, in charge of adjustment of claims for compensation, government insurance, vocational training and medical treatment for veterans of the World War. Mr. O’Sullivan first worked as a stenographer for the law firm of Atkinson & Judd, later Atkinson, Judd & Mott-Smith, from 1902 to 1905. He was appointed clerk in the office of the territorial secretary, March 15, 1905, and was made chief clerk early in 1910. Appointed private secretary to Governor W. F. Frear, March 31, 1910, he held that position for six months and become secretary to the Public Utilities Commission July 1, 1913, serving until Aug. 26, 1917, when he went to the first Officers’ Training Camp at Schofield Barracks. Commissioned a first lieutenant, Nov. 24, 1917, Mr. O’Sullivan was assigned to the Second U. S. Infantry, serving in turn at Fort Shafter, Oahu; Camp Fremont, Calif., and Camp Dodge, Iowa. He was honorably discharged Feb. 8, 1919. He had been a member of the National Guard since 1903, having the rank of captain, and was a member of the National Guard rifle team at tournaments in 1913 and 1915. Upon his return to Honolulu he resumed his work with the Public Utilities Commission, serving until he assumed his present duties in January, 1922. Born in Honolulu, July 2, 1885, Mr. O’Sullivan is the son of Peter and Marie (Ramona) O’Sullivan. He was graduated from St. Louis College in 1902. Mr. O’Sullivan and Maud Eliza Cushingham were married in Honolulu, June 1, 1909, and have two children, H. C. Kaiwalani and Edith Elizabeth P. O’Sullivan. Mr. O’Sullivan was elected department commander of the American Legion in 1924. He is a member of the Healani Yacht and Boat and Columbus Welfare Clubs, the Y.M.I. and St. Louis College Alumni Association.
