Nellist WILLIAM PULLAR, Plantation Manager. One of the veterans in the sugar industry of Hawaii, William Pullar has been engaged in plantation work since his arrival in the islands in 1887 and since 1898 he has been manager of the Honomu Sugar Co. at Honomu, Hawaii. Born in Forfar, Scotland, Feb. 7, 1863, he is the son of Joseph and Sarah (Whyte) Pullar. After obtaining a public school education he farmed in partnership with his father for several years in Scotland. Arriving in Honolulu, Sept. 3, 1887, he was a team overseer, Papaikou Plantation, Hawaii, until 1889; team overseer and head overseer, Pepeekeo Sugar Co., 1889-1898, and was appointed on Oct. 1, 1898, to his present position. Mr. Pullar also has taken an active interest in other business affairs, serving as vice-president and director of the First Bank of Hilo, Ltd., and of the First Trust Co. of Hilo, Ltd., and director of the Hilo Electric Co., Ltd., and the Hawaiian Guaranty and Insurance Co., Ltd. He married Helen T. Mitchell on Oct. 12, 1899, in Honolulu.
