Nellist RUFUS WHITING ROBINSON, Directory Manager. The compilation of city directories has long been the work of Rufus W. Robinson, manager of the Polk-Husted Directory Co. of Honolulu, who joined R. L. Polk & Co. in 1890 at St. Paul, Minn., and has since continuously had charge of that company’s directory work in various cities of the United States. R. L. Polk & Co. now controls the publication of four hundred and ninety-two city directories, twenty-four state gazeteers, an unabridged Bankers’ Encyclopedia of the entire world and a dozen or more miscellaneous publications, including one monthly trade magazine. The company took over the former Husted’s directory of Hawaii, forming the Polk-Husted Directory Co., and in 1906 Mr. Robinson was sent here to take charge. Born in St. Paul, Minn., on Sept. 3, 1870, he is the son of Rufus C. and Lucy Cecilia (Walling) Robinson. He attended the St. Paul public schools. In 1910 he married Bertha Foster Dexter of Honolulu. Mr. Robinson is an Elk, and a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Honolulu Ad, Commercial and Rotary clubs.
