Nellist DAIZO SUMIDA, Merchant and Importer. A resident of Honolulu for twenty years, Daizo Sumida, a leading Japanese merchant and importer, succeeded his brother Tajiro Sumida, as head of various enterprises promoted by the Sumida family in Honolulu. Mr. Sumida became president of T. Sumida & Co., Ltd., dealers in domestic and imported food products in 1918. The company was established by T. Sumida, his brother, who now makes his home in Japan. Besides his import and export business, Mr. Sumida is secretary and treasurer of the Hawaii Products Co., an ice manufacturing enterprise, and is a director of the Hawaiian Drug Co., Ltd., and the American Soy Brewing Co., Ltd. Born at Hiroshima, Japan, Aug. 7, 1887, Mr. Sumida is the son of Hatsuzo and Maki (Tanimoto) Sumida. He graduated from a commercial school at Hiroshima and upon his arrival in Honolulu in 1905 entered Iolani School, where he mastered the English language. Mr. Sumida and Fusao Hayama were married Oct. 26, 1911. He is first vice-president of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Honolulu and is a member of the Honolulu Chamber of Commerce and Ad Club.
