Special in News-Telegraph Lewis, Iowa, Nov. 3---Martin Pont, age 75, passed away at 12:30 today at his home here after being ill with pneumonia since Monday. Mr. Pont has been a resident of this county for the past forty-five years. He came here in 1866 and lived on a farm three miles south of Lewis until a year ago last March when he and his wife moved to Lewis. Mrs. Pont died on June 6 of this year. Mr. Pont was born in Cambridgeshire, Eng., May 25, 1846 and lived there until 1866. He came to this country in a sailing vessel which was thirty-seven days on the ocean. After his arrival in this country he went to Bureau County, Ill., where he made his home with two uncles until his marriage on Dec 23, 1867 to Miss Frances Murfitt. They came to this county in 1876 and made their home south of Lewis. He is survived by five children: Mrs. Mary Pulley living at home; John and Sam of Stanton, Neb.; Russell of Lewis and Edward who lives south of Atlantic.
