Roanoke Beacon Newspaper Of Plymouth, NC August 4, 1899
Annie, the four-year-old daughter of Frank HOENING, narrowly escaped drowning in 
the Blue Grass at Audobon, Iowa.  She was returning from church with two other 
girls when she slipped off the narrow improvised footbridge over the dam and slid 
down the chutes into the deep eddy below.  Little Joe ALLEN, a lad eight years of 
age, who was nearby, jumped in and pulled her out after she had gone below the 
surface the first time.
