Mr Conrad Kaiser, aged 79 years, 1 month and 21 days. Conrad Kaiser was born in Hermannsrode, Saxony-Meiningen, Germany, March 17, 1832. He came to America August 17, 1851 and worked as a farm hand in the state of New Jersey for five years. During that period he was married to Miss Barbara Kessler. He came west to Illinois in 1856 and with his young wife engaged in farming. In 1883 he came to Iowa with his family and settled in Benton county, and with the help of his family and five stalwart, hard working and business-like sons, he acquired a large tract of farm land which is now very valuable. Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Kaiser, six daughters and five sons. Five of the little girls died in infancy, one daughter, Mrs. Anna Wolf, died when 22 years of age and only the five sons survived. They were George, Hartman, And Phillip, of LaPorte; Henry of O'Brien county and Conrad of Vinton. The good wife and mother died about nine years ago, and since then deceased had made his home with his son, George, where his death occurred. The funeral was held at his late home Tuesday at 1 o'clock P.M., the Rev. M. Rosenfeld; and at the U. B. church near the farm at 2:00 P.M. services being conducted in English by Mr. Hobson, a young theological student. A large number of old friends, neighbors and relatives were present at both funerals. Interment was made beside the remains of his late wife in U. B. cemetery. "Uncle" Kaiser, as he was affectionately known was one of the best citizens, ever lending his aid to the distressed, looking after the welfare of his family and helping the needy. He was one of the most highly respected men of the community, and his death is sincerely mourned by all. The world has been made better for his living in it, and the example of his righteous and honorable life will prove an uplift to the community in which he so long resided.
