He was born February 18, 1923, in Mt. Auburn, a son of Floyd and Alvina Grau Sturtz. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Vinton and has served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. Following his tour of duty with the Navy, he married Arlene Mae Kaiser, May 24, 1947, in Independence. He farmed near Independence and Shellsburg, had worked for Rommann tractor in Vinton, and presently owned and operated Sturtz Repair in Vinton. He was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in Vinton, was a member of the Masonic Lodge and White Lily Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Shellsburg, and George Hardinger Post No. 475 of the American Legion, Garrison. Mr. Sturtz is survived by his wife Arlene of rutal Vinton; one son Dennis and his wife Rosalee of rural Vinton; two daughters, Linda of Richfield, Minnesota and Lori of San Deigo, California; his mother, Alvina Sturtz Myers of Vinton; his mother-in-law, Alma Kaiser of Independence; one brother, Darrell of Alburnett; five sisters, nadine Staggs, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Ervin (Darlene) Krug of La Porte City, Mrs. Ed (Irene) Lundahl, of Independence; Mrs. Bud (Eileen) Koehn, Vinton and Mrs. Leo (Janice) Brown, Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Michelle, Adam, Kelly, Matthew and Jennifer Sturtz; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, one son, Dale and two brothers. Memorial funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the First Presbyterian Church in Vinton with Dr. Dennis Morey officiating. Public visitation and military flag presentation will be the same time as the public memorial services. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton at a later date as the body has been given to the University Hospitals in Iowa City. A memorial has been established. The Campbell-Russell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
