Brown, 89, died Monday morning, September 11, 1995, at Covenant Medical Center, Wateloo, of heart failure. He was born November 27, 1905, in Garrison, the son of Roy and Minnie (Kaiser) Brown. He married Mabel V. Hartz March 16, 1927, in La Porte City. She died October 23, 1990. He was a farmer and owner/operator of Brown Transfer for 50 years. He served on the La Porte City Council for 18 years, acting as Mayor Pro Tem during several of his terms. During these years in office, many improvements and accomplishments were achieved in La Porte City. He also served as a volunteer fireman for 18 years. He served on the Board of Directors for the La Porte City Co-op Elevator for 21 years. He was elected and served on the La Porte City Community School Board for two three-years terms. He also served as a director for the La Porte City State Bank for five years. He also drove a La Porte City school bus for five years during the late 40s and early 50s. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ben R. and Pat Brown and Bill R. and Esther Brown, all of La Porte City; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two sisters, Eleanor Snovel, Sacramento, CA., and Floreine Childres, Camrillo, CA. In addition to his wife, he was preceded by his parents and five brothers. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Sept. 14, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, La Porte City. The Rev. Wayne McCoy will officiate. Interment will be in West View Cemetery, La Porte City. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M., Wednesday, Sept. 13, at Huisman Funeral Home, La Porte city, and one hour prior to service Thursday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the church.
