He worked as an engineer at Herrick Refrigerator & Cold Storage Co. He died Tuesday at home in Los Angeles, CA where he lived for the last 18 years. He was suffering from heart trouble. He was born in PA in 1867 and came to Waterloo when 15 years old. Survivors include his wife, Bessie, two daughters, Mrs. Jennie Moore, Des Moines, and Mrs. Lucie Moore, Shakleford, MO and two sons, J. A. Butenhoff, Des Moines and I. W. Butenhoff of Waterloo. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. Additional Comments: Note: He was not born in PA. His death certificate says he was born 12/1/1868 in Germany and the passenger list for the sailing ship Eugenie shows he was on board and arrived in New York, 5/27/1869 along with his parents and 2 other children.
