Hill Clearwater, FLA--Ivan LeRoy Hill, 81, of Clearwater, Florida, died March 2, 1993 in Clearwater. Services were held in Clearwater March 5, 1993, where he had been a resident since 1977. He is survived by his wife, Lucille, of Clearwater; son, Davide; daughters, Margaret, Elaine, and Jane; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hill was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lizzie (Kaiser) Hill of Mt. Auburn; a sister, Erma Bradfield of Oelwein, and a brother, Edwin Hill of Mt. Auburn. Hill was a Professor Emeritus and former chairman of the engineering graphics department at Illinois Institute of Technology. Professor Hill was born in Mt. Auburn and was class valedictorian when he graduated from Mt. Auburn High school in 1930. He graduated with honors from Iowa State University in 1938, where he also received a Master of Science degree in 1950. After five years of teaching at Grove City College in Pennsylvania, he came to Illinois Institute of Technology as an assistant professor in 1942. After spending 1945 and 1946 heading up the organization of the university's admission office, he returned to teaching and research. As a result of his scholarly activities he was subsequently promoted as associate professor and then professor. In 1962, he was appointed chairman of the engineering graphics department, a position he held until his retirement in 1977. In addition to his work as a scholar, educator, researcher and administrator, Professor Hill was the author or co-author of twelve college textbooks on engineering graphics, technical drawing, and descriptive geometry, including "Technical Drawing," the most widely used engineering text in North America. His books have also been published in various languages for use in other countries. Professor Hill received the Distinguished Service Award of the American Society for Engineering Education's Division of Engineering Graphics in 1967, and served as national chair of the division in 1956-57. He was a twenty year member of the Engineering Drawing Standards Committee of the American National Standards Institute, the private sector coordinating center for industrial standards. He was a member of many other professional societies and organizations, and was listed in "Who's Who in Engineering" and "Who's Who in American Education."
