Mrs. Catherine Mayer
    Catherine Welp Mayer, 80, of 423 East Tenth
street, died Friday at 10:45 p.m. at her home
of complications incident to advanced age.
    Born Mar. 1, 1867, at East Dubuque, Ill., 
the daughter of Bernard and Theresa Welp, she
was married to Anton Mayer at Haverhill, Ia. 
May 9, 1893.
    The couple made their ome in Bancroft, Ia.,
where they remained until 1923 at which time 
they moved to Waterloo.
    Mrs. Mayer was a member of St. John's
Catholic church and the rosary society.
    Surviving are her husband, three daughters,
Mrs. P. A. Bronson, Chicago; Mrs. A. W. Heuertz,
Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. H. H. Becker, 228 Clay
street; three sons, J. Urban Mayer. 1212 Logan
avenue; Anthony F. Mayer, Chicago, and Walter
W. Mayer, 712 West Ninth street.
    There are 26 surviving grandchildren and 
three great grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by a son, two sisters and four brothers.
    Funeral servicees will be Monday at 10 a.m.,
a solemn high mass, at St. John's Catholic church
with Rev. John Mayer of Springbrook, Ia., and
Rev. Paul Kunkle, Brown's Valley, Minn., officiating.
Both priests are nephews of Anton Mayer.
    Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
    The body will be taken to the family home from
O'Keefe & Towne funeral home today at 2 p.m. The
rosary will be recited there by two groups tonight,
the Knights of Columbus at 7 p.m. and the St. John's
Rosary society at 8 p.m.
