Metro Deaths

   Velma Mayer, 77, of 1130 Prospect Blvd.,
died Monday, Dec. 16, at Chandler Medical
Hospital, Chandler, Ariz., of a stroke.
    She was born April 24, 1914, in Dubuque,
daughter of Frank and Mary Desmond Duggan. 
She married Walter Mayer on Dec. 28, 1935,
in Waterloo. He died April 26, 1986.
   Survivors include a son, Thomas of Chandler;
a daughter, Nancy Clark of Valencia, Calif.; 10
grandchildren; two brothers, Roy and Larry Duggan,
both of Waterloo; and a sister, Lavine Klein of
Waterloo.
   Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St.
Edward's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount
Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m.
today at Oppold-Hagarty Funeral Home, where
there will be a 7 p.m. parish vigil service.
   Memorials may be given to Columbus High School.
