Shannon, 83, of 816 Western Ave., will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist church with burial in the Garden of Memories. He died at 10:30 p.m. Friday at Schoitz Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 14, 1895, in Nichols, the son of Robert and Caroline Hechtner Shannon, he married Amanda Rummells, Oct. 29, 1919, in Nichols. He was the owner and operator of Duratile Co., Waterloo, from 1948 until retirement in 1965. He was a Navy veteran of World War I, leaving as an ensign. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs Robert Appleby Frink of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. C.G. Train of Largo, fla.; four grandsons, eight great- grandchildren, and a brother, Lloyd Shannon of Springfield, Ill. Friends wishing may give memorials to the First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the Parrott and Wood Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday. The casket will be open for one hour at the church before services. Flag folding rites at graveside will be conducted by Becker Chapman Post 138 of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
