PHILLIP SHOWERS DIES AT FRASER Well Known Old Soldier Passes Away. Leaves a Widow and Family of Fifteen Children. The Funeral Services Are to Be Held Tuesday Afternoon at Two O'clock From Methodist Church in Fraser. Saturday night at 10:00 o'clock at his home in Fraser occurred the death of Mr. Phillip Showers, an early resident of that place. Death was due to paralysis of which he had been ailing for the past four years. He leaves to mourn his death besides his wife, fifteen children. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 O'clock from the Methodist church and interment will be in the Ridgeport cemetery. Deceased was an old soldier, prominent throughout the county. His affliction during the past few years made him helpless and he bore up bravely. He secured a pension some time ago through the efforts of Boone people. Sketch of Life of Mr. Showers Well Known Resident of Fraser Leaves Large Family of Children, Patient Durning Sickness. Phillip H. Showers was born in Junita County, Penn., Nov. 9, 1844 and died at his home in Fraser, Iowa, July 17, 1909, at the age of 64 years, 8 months and 8 days. Mr. Showers spent his childhood and youth at the parental home and attended the country school until fitted for the academy at which place he acquired more than a normal education. After leaving the academy he taught school until called to serve his country in the Civil War. He enlisted in Co. C., 101 Reg. Penn, and was honorable discharged July 25, 1865. He spent some time in Illinois then moved to Boone County in 1868 where he continued the remainder of his life. In 1869 he was united in marriage with Alice E. Wilson, and to this union was born fifteen children, eight sons and seven daughters, three sons have preceded him to the great divide, those remaining are: William H., Charles S., Edward L., Phillip C., Mrs. Frank Walters, Mrs. George Hinman, Mrs Chas. Ahrens, Mrs. C.V. Davis, Mrs. C. Lucas, James, Jennie and Florence. the latter three children are at home. All the children were present at the funeral. On November 24, 1905, Mr. Showers was stricken with paralysis and was confined to his bed continuously until death released him from his suffering. During this time he was ever patient and resigned, and a short time before his death he expressed his desire to endure as long as God willed it. He was a good husband, a kind father, an honest citizen and made no enemies. He leaves a faithful wife, children and many friends to mourn his departure and cherish him in their memories. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the M.E. Church at Fraser, and the remains laid to rest in the Mineral Ridge cemetery.
