Complied by HAROLD BRIGGS. Includes materials collected by Mrs. CAROLINE HICKS. Indexed by LISA GROTE, JANINE FREESE, SALLY SCHWEER AND ADRIENNE LAWLOR. Transcriber's note: The date of the obituary was either stated in the article or was written in long-hand at the top of the article. There was no reference as to which newspaper the obituary originally appeared. Dated: Dec. 24th, 1884 Lawton. - At her home southeast of town, Wednesday, Dec. 24th, 1884, of inflammatory rheumatism, accompanied with fever, Mrs. Lizzie Lawton, wife of Seth Lawton, aged 29 years. Mrs. Lawton's death in one of those mysterious rulings of an all-wise Providence that are beyond the power of finite minds to fathom, and which only can be met with the unquestioning faith of a little child in the goodness of a loving father. In the very prime of life, with a husband rejoicing in her wifely administrations, and four little girls, the eldest of which is but nine years of age, dependent upon her for a mother's care and guidance, it does indeed seem that her presence was yet needed in earthly home, and we sincerely sympathize with the daughter of Mr. Peter Williams, of Douglas township, and a sister of Peter Williams Jr. and Joh A. Williams, bother of Millbank, Dakota. We believe she has also a sister and two brothers in California. Transcribed by Barbara Braun, February 8, 2000.
