She had been a resident of the Home for the past nine years. Her death was attributed to complications incident to advanced age. At the time of her death, she had reached the age of 96 years, four months and four days. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John American Lutheran Church, Buck Creek, with the church pastor, Rev. Allan J. Stoa, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Emerson-Milnes Funeral Home of Sumner. Prior to her death, Mrs. Westendorf had been the oldest living member of her church. Emma Buhr was born September 19, 1875, the daughter of Louis and Maria Nicklaus Buhr near Buck Creek, Dayton Township, Bremer County, Iowa. Until moving to the Bartels Lutheran Home nine years ago, she had spent her entire life in the Buck Creek community. She was baptized November 1, 1875 at St, John American Lutheran Church by Rev. Wm. Aidix and was confirmed in the same; church by the same pastor on May 30, 1890. She married. Albert Westendorf November 29, 1894 in the same church as her baptism and confirmation and with the same pastor officiating at the ceremony. Her husband preceded her in death in January, 1952. Survivors include two sons, Herman of Sumner and Albert of Oran; one daughter, Martha, Mrs. Wm. Tegtmeier of Sumner; one brother, Ernest Buhr of Sumner; two sisters, Anna, Mrs. Wm. Schnadt of Sumner and Amanda, Mrs. Sam Bradley of Perth, North Dakota; nine grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 20 great great grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, five sisters and three brothers.
