Written: March 18, 1917 Bremer County, Iowa, District Court. “Last Will and Testement of Caroline A. Miller.” March 18, 1917. That I, Caroline A. Miller of Waverly, Iowa, being of sound and disposing mind and memory and owing to the uncertainty of this life, do make, declare and publish this as my last will and testament and hereby revoking all former wills: First: It is my will that all my just debts be first paid out of my estate. Second: I give bequeath and devise unto the Methodist Episcopal Church in Waverly, Bremer County, Iowa, and of which Church I am now a member, the sum of Four Thousand Dollars ($4000). Third: To Mrs. Andrew Potter, I give bequeath and devise the sum of Four Thousand Dollars ($4000). To Herman W. Potter, son of Marvin Potter, I give bequeath and devise the sum of Two Thousand Dollars, ($2000). To Hammond O. Potter, son of Marvin Potter, I give devise and bequeath the sum of Two Thousand Dollars, ($2000). To the living children of my deceased sister, Mrs. Adaline Eldredge, I give, bequeath and devise the sum of Fiver hundred Dollars ($500) said sum to be equally divided among the living children of said deceased sister. To Sarah L Hurlbut I give , bequeath and devise the sum of Four Thousand Dollars ($4000). (hand written on document) To Frank Potter, Hattie Holmes and Carrie Coffman, who are the children of my brother, Warren potter, deceased, I give bequeath and devise the sum of Four Thousand Dollars ($4000), said four thousand dollars to be divided equally among said Frank potter, Hattie Holmes and Carrie Coffman. To Orson W. Potter, I give bequeath and devise the sum of Thirty -Five hundred Dollars ($3500). To the Methodist Children’s Orphan’s Home of Des Moines, Iowa, I give, bequeath and devise the sum of Fifteen Hundred Dollars ($1500). To Linda Simpson, I give, bequeath and devise the sum of Four Thousand Dollars ($4000). To the Iowa Children’s Home Society of Des Moines, Iowa, I give the sum of Two Thousand Dollars ($2000). To the Upper Iowa University of Fayette, Iowa, I give the sum of One Thousand Dollars ($1000). To Cornell College of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, I give the sum of One Thousand Dollars ($1000). Fourth: I direct that the sumo Two Hundred Dollars ($200) be paid to the First National Bank of Waverly, Iowa, to be held in trust by said bank, and the interest on said fund to be used and paid for the maintenance of the family cemetery lot of myself and husband. Fifth: It is my will that all the residues and remainder of the estate of which I may die seized, both real and personal and whatsoever of every name and nature, to be equally divided between Linda Simpson and Orson W. Potter, share and share alike. Sixth: I hereby nominate and appoint as executor of this my last will and testament, C. H. Hastings of Waverly, Iowa. And in order to enable my executor to administer my estate and pay the legacies, special power and authority is hereby given my executor to sell and dispose of any and all real or personal property of which I may died seized at a price not less than the appraised value thereof. In Witness Whereof, I have to this my last will and testament, consisting of three sheets of paper, signed my name at Waverly, Iowa, this 13th Day of March, A.D. 1917. Caroline A. Miller of Waverly, Iowa, did in our presence sign the foregoing instrument as her last will and testament, and we at her request and in her presence and in the presence of each other do hereunto subscribe our names as witnesses thereto.
