This small abandoned cemetery is a family plot known as Hardman Cemetery named after members of the Hardman family who were early settlers in the Greene area. John Hardman, who is buried in this cemetery and John W. Miller were the first men to plot out the town of Elm Springs which was once located in the area of this cemetery. Other family members are buried in the Brethren Cemetery one-half mile away. It is believed that these family members died of smallpox and were hastily buried in what is now the pasture on the Dennis Ott farm south of the town of Greene in section 13 in Coldwater Township The two Kingery children were the first deaths recorded in Bennezette Township. They were the children of William and Mary Magnolin Kingery. Their remains were interred in the Old German burying grounds in Coldwater township with Elder Moss officiating at the funeral.
