Schumacher Passes Away Wednesday Night - Her Devotion to Home and Family -- Funeral Saturday Mrs. J. F. Schumacher died at her home in Carroll last Wednesday night in a very unexpected manner. She had been in poor health for some time, but the day before her death was in good spirits and the family were delighted to note the improvement in her condition. She ate heartily at supper and spent the evening cheerfully with the family. However, during the night she was taken suddenly ill and before a doctor could be summoned she passed away. Mrs. Schumacher had resided with her family in Carroll for 28 years and her quiet, unobtrusive life was devoted to the care of her children and the affairs of her home. Among her neighbors she was highly esteemed and in her own household she was a fountain of love and inspiration. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Brust and she was born in Ohio on March 13,1850. November 6, 1868, she was married to J. F. Schumacher and for over 30 years they have journeyed along the domestic path in harmony and love. Eight children were born to them, five of whom are still living -- William, a farmer in Jasper township, John, a clerk at Light Brothers, Arthur, a clerk at Schachtner's, Mrs. Elmer Hanby, and Bertha, who has lived with her parents. Besides the grief stricken family at the funeral there were present relatives from out of town, Mrs. Realto Stratemeyer of Emmettsburg, and P. T. Aggerbeck of Chicago. The deceased was a member of the M.E. church and the funeral exercises were conducted by the Rev. J. W. Taylor. The community is poorer by the loss of a good wife and mother, a home maker who devoted her life to forming young lives for manhood and womanhood, bettering the world by sacrifices and good deeds. Such a woman has passed away. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ia/carroll/obits/s/schumach223nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/iafiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
