Lizzie Parker Simonton Berry Obituary, Cass County, Iowa --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prepared for the Cass County Iowa GenWeb Archives by James F. Pearson --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mrs. Frank M. Berry Passed Away A thrill of sympathy ran through many hearts in this community last Sunday morning, as it was announced that Mrs. F. M. Berry had ceased to live a few hours before. Since July 1860, Mrs. Berry had been a victim of that most painful and dreaded disease, rheumatism, so that for 38 years she had been an intense and almost constant sufferer. During their years of residence here Mrs. Berry had been helpless, but her bright, brave, helpful spirit had drawn many friends about her and the lessons there learned cannot be soon forgotten. Mrs. Berry had a brilliant mind which disease did not touch, and a strength of character which is seldom equaled. She was never heard to complain but all her suffering was borne in a Christian spirit of patience and resignation, so that in her affliction was fulfilled the scripture. My grace is sufficient for thee. Through all of these years the devoted and unselfish husband who is left to mourn her death has been her constant attendant, caring for her as if she was a child. All this was done with no though save that of love but Mr. Berry has won for himself an enviable place in the esteem of his fellow townsmen. The funeral which was held at the Baptist church Tuesday afternoon was largely attended and there were many beautiful floral offerings. Lizzie Parker Simonton was born July the 19, 1830 in Portland ME. She gave herself wholly to the Lord, was baptized in his name in 1848 and joined the Adventist people, the people of her choice. She was married to Mr. Frank M. Berry at Lawrence, Mass., June 3, 1852. She with her husband came to Vinton in July 1883. She united with the Baptist church with her husband in July of last year. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ====================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, material may be freely used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material, AND permission is obtained from the contributor of the file.
