Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ruser and daughter Miss Bertha were Davenport passengers Wednesday. Wm. Smith of Montana returned home last Thursday to spend the holidays at his parental home. Miss Cecel Rohdes of Cedar Rapids spent Saturday visiting at the home of her cousin Fay Roberdee. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Owen and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Owen went to Davenport in their auto Tuesday. John Smith and wife, Amelia Olesen and Chas. Child of Nebraska spent Saturday at the Laugman home. Mr. Emil Hoepner was a passenger for Davenport Friday where he spent Christmas at his parental home. T. P. Barnes, Sam Bossen, R. J. Johann and Louis Miller were business callers at Tipton Tuesday afternoon. Mr. D. B. Smith shipped 10 cars of stock to Chicago this week and expects more before the old year is gone. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wingert and family spent Christmas in Cedar Rapids at the home of the formers father. Geo. Hamman Jr. and Anna Blair who are going to school at Davenport came to spend Christmas with their parents. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Miller are the happy over the arrival of a 11 lbs baby boy who came Thursday Dec. 24 to gladden their home. Misses May Moss and Flossie Grahart of Cedar Rapids came Friday morning and visited until Sunday with friends and relatives. Mr. Floyd Murray of Mechanicsville and John Piersall of Buchanan came to spend Christmas with their grandma Mrs. Piersall. The Bennett Base Ball Club are going to have a big dance Thursday Jan. 7 Strasser's Orchestra are to furnish the music and the boys are prepairing for a big time. Mrs. Fink of Durant visited with her daughter Mrs. L. Gust and at the home of her father Wm. Korthaus a few days last week. The Christmas treat at the M. E. and German churches for the children Christmas eve was well carried out and the programs were given in excellent style. And many little hearts were made glad by the many presents the received. Mrs. J. M. Reed had the misfortune of falling down celler Monday evening no bones were broken but she received a bad jar which she will recover from in a few days. L. C. Hostler came to Bennett Thursday night from New Castle Ind. Where he is employed by the Maxwell Criscoe Co. as mechanical inspector and repair man. He will visit his parents A. L. Hostler and family for an indefinite time. He says there is no place like Iowa and home. Geo. Tucker our POPULAR hotel man has decamped and left a "bunch" of creditors to mourn the loss. At the time of going to press we have not learned the full particulars of the affair but understand that his wife went away Saturday and his brother left Monday afternoon on a supposed visit and some time after eleven o'clock Monday night Tucker left just how we have not learned. A little scandal a little trouble and read cash are the reasons he gave as leaving his Bennett friends with his regrets. INLAND Mrs. J. H. Wharton called at the Joenk home one afternoon last week. Some from here attended the show at Bennett Monday evening. Wm. Kleppe and sisters Misses Anna and Lena visited with Miss Minnie Rohwedder Sunday. John Joenk was a Bennett visitor Tuesday. Henry Roser and family moved their household goods in their new home in Bennett Tuesday. The Roser family have been good neighbors and will be missed by the people of this vicinity. S. A. Handley was a Tipton visitor one day last week. Lee Handley of Adair Co. is visiting with relative and friends in this vicinity. John Fisher and sister Ada visited Miss Minnie Rohwedder Sunday. Wm. Kleppe Sr. and son were Bennett visitors Monday. A. B. Willcutt and Herman Backus were Bennett visitors Tuesday. Miss Anna Christensen went to Davenport on Wednesday evening of last week and from there she went to Wilton to spend Christmas. Wm. Peter was a caller in Bennett Tuesday. Mrs. Laura Bois and niece Miss Wave Wharton were Davenport visitors Thursday. Frank Montz of Bennett was in this vicinity Monday. Some from here attended the Christmas program at Bennett. G. Bannick was a Bennett visitor Monday. LOWDEN Pat Ried had the pleasure of shooting another fine gray fox Friday afternoon near the home of C. Lorenzen. This is the third fox that Pat has shot this season. Louis Wagner of Wheatland called at the H. W. Mowry home Sunday. Chas. Petersen was a caller here Saturday. C. Lorenzen visited at M. A. Ronwedder home Sunday. Herny Handorf of Wheatland visited at the Jake Kelting home Sunday. Misses Emma and Martha Brockmeyer spend Sunday with Nelly and Bessie Mowry. Schlunsen shipped two cars of hogs to the eastern markets. Henry Holst went in company with them. Richard Peterson and wife spent Christmas at the home of Herman Krebs. Ferd Peterson shipped a car load of hogs of his own feeding to the Chicago market last Sunday and went along in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Schwarting and son Olen spent Christmas ever at the home of Frank Barscher. Joe Lamp of Tipton is visiting at his sister Mrs. Wm. Weih for a week. P. A. Rienbecht and family spent Christmas with relatives at Walcott. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Schneekloth spent Sunday at the Harry Schneekloth home. Geo. Klahn left for Chicago Sunday afternoon with Herman Krebs, the latter shipped his hogs from Durant the former taking a scholarship term in watchmaking at Chicago. C. J. Specht and family made an automobile trip to Durant Sunday. Miss Amanda Thiesen who is connected with the German Savings Bank in New Liberty is visiting at the parental home of Mr. and Mrs. Hy Thiesen. Quite a few from here attended the Christmas dance at Krones Hall at Durant last Saturday. John Tietjeu and family of Lester, Ia, are visiting at the H. D. Wacker home for several days. AYRESVILE Cline and Neal Morehouse were business visitor in Wilton Wednesday. J. W. Gano bought a new single driver from Daniel Ford last week. Frank Whitmer and family spent Christmas in Wilton at the Welch home. Mrs. Henry Ahrens ------ marketed turkeys and ---------Sunbury Tuesday. Chas. Dice and family spent Sunday at the Albert Straub home. The little son of Neal Morehouse is very sick at this writing. Geo. Woodhouse passed through Ayresville Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyer were Muscatine visitors Wednesday. Chas. Smith visited Wednesday at the J. W. Rorick home. Fay, the little son of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Ayres is very low with pneumonia. We understand they have a nurse from Davenport. Leahe Whitmer of Sioux City visited Wednesday with his aunt Mrs. Chas. Dice. Geo. Whitmer left last Tuesday for Spencer Clay Co. for a few weeks visit with his sister Mrs. Gus Ayers and family. Everett Rorick and family took the train at Wilton for Muscatine Wednesday. Rev. Bradford of Silver City called in Ayresville one day last week. Miss Ella Dice of Wilton and Max Manning of Spencer visited with Newt Dice and family Friday.
