He is also proprietor of a large grain elevator in Marcus. He was born in Germany in 1843; came to America in 1847 and settled in Ill.; moved to Ia. in 1867 and for a time was engaged in the hotel business; then engaged in the agricultural business at Blairtown, and came to this city in 1876. He married Margaret Schall, of Ia., in 1869, and has three children—Minnie C., Cora, and Wm. Louis.
