A. Wellman, postmaster, was born in N. Y. in 1826; studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1849; came to Delaware county, Ia., and engaged in the practice of his profession, which he continued for twenty years. During President Fillmore's administration, he was appointed postmaster, but his health failing him, he engaged in farming, and in 1870 removed to Cherokee from Benton county, and engaged in the drug business. In 1872 he was appointed postmaster of this city, and has held the office ever since.
