OBITS: Bernard Stief; Cherokee County, Iowa ============================================================================= Cherokee County, Iowa obituary - Bernard Stief DEATH OF BERNARD STIEF Passed away in Minneapolis after operation for appendicitis. Sunday morning a telegram was received in Aurelia by relatives announcing the death of Bernard Stief at a Minneapolis hospital. He was taken there the week previous from his home near Hetland, S.D. to have an operation for appendicitis, death following the second operation which he was obliged to pass through last Saturday. The remains were brought to Aurelia Tuesday and the funeral held at the German Evangelical church Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. Lorenz of the German Evangelical church near Peterson had charge of the funeral service. The floral display was beautiful especially the Modern Woodman Lodge of which disceased was an honored member. Burial was at the Aurelia cemetery. John B. Stief was born October 28, 1857 at Kornar, Germany. He came to America to Cook County, IL in 1871 and ten years later moved to Buena Vista County, Iowa and in 1890 moved to Aurelia and followed the hardware business four years when he engaged in farming at Hetland, S.D.. He was united in marriage to Miss Wilhelmina Bramer in 1882. Nine children were born to them, two having died. The mother died August 4, 1899 inn this city. August 15, 1900 desceased married Miss Meta Miller. Three children were born to them, one dying in infancy. Deceased was taken ill July 19. He died August 3, 1907, age 49 years, 9 months and 5 days. ----------------- CARD OF THANKS We desire to express our heartfelt thanks for the kindness shown during the burial of our husband and father.
