OBITS: Carl W. Stief; Cherokee County, Iowa ============================================================================ Cherokee County, Iowa obituary - Carl W. Stief Carl W. Stief Carl W. Stief 86, of Cherokee, died Monday at Sioux Valley Me- morial Hospital, following a short illness. Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m.at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. The Rev. Jeffrey Krueger will officiate and burial will be in the Emanuel Lutheran Cem- etery, rural Aurelia. A family prayer service will be held at 1:45 P.M.Thursday at the church. Visita- tion will be held at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. The fam- ily will be present at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. He was born Aug. 18, 1907 in Buena Vista County to Charlie and Ann (Brehmer) Stief. He attended Buena Vista Country School. On Jan. 26, 1930 he married Erna Roggow at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Aurelia. They farmed in Buena Vista and Cherokee counties for many years. He retired from farm- ing because of a stroke in 1976. He enjoyed raising horses. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Maynard Stief and his wife Donna of Cherokee; Mahlon Stief and his wife Kay of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Joan Ballantyne and her husband Keith of Cherokee; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grand- children; two great-great-grandchil- dren; and a sister, Linda Kolpin of Cherokee. He was Preceded in death by his Parents, three brothers and one sister.
