OBITS: Erna A. Stief; Cherokee County, Iowa ========================================================================= Cherokee County, Iowa obituary - Erna A. Stief Erna A. Stief Erna A. Stief, 91, of Cherokee, died Friday, August 9, 2002 in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital, Cherokee, following a brief illness. Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Cherokee. Rev. Richard Arndt officiated. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, north of Aurelia. Visitation was Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. She was born January 26, 1911 near Cherokee to Henry and Louise (Golnitz) Roggow. She was educated in rural schools and attended Brooke consolidated High School. On January 25, 1930 she married Carl A. Stief in Aurelia. He preceded her in death in 1994. Erna was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was a church organist and taught Sunday School. Later she became a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee and was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She made draperies and did sewing for Mildred Moorehead. Survivors include 2 sons, Maynard Stief and his wife, Donna, of Cherokee; Mahlon Stief of San Antonio, Texas; 1 daughter, Joan Ballantyne and her husband, Keith, of Cherokee; also 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
