Lena Charlotte Potter was a native of Chickasaw county. She was the daughter of Lester and Clarissa Potter, born November 3, 1887, on the home farm six miles east and two north of Nashua. There were four boys and four girls in the family of which only three remain. In that vicinity she was reared and received her early schooling, finishing her schoolwork in New Hampton. She was married to Mr. Ray Lathrop, October 18, 1899 in New Hampton, by Rev. Lease. For two years after their marriage the young couple lived on a farm just south of New Hampton, and for the last 31 years they have resided in this city. To them were born two children, Clark L. Lathrop and Lela Metcalf, both of Nashua. Besides her husband and two children, Mrs Lathrop is survived by four grandchildren, and two brothers and one sister, namely: Lindon Potter of Winfred, S.D.; Mrs Linda Simpson, of Cedar Falls and Lock Potter of Waterloo. She was a member and past president of the Women's Relief Corps. She had been a loyal and exemplary member of the Methodist church for forty years, and an untiring and enthusiastic member of the Ladies Aid Society. Mrs Lathrop had not been in the best of health the last three years, but she never complained and made light of fever and pain. She contracted the influenza hardly two weeks ago, and because of severe complications, pneumonia set up such a siege that her depleted vitality could no longer resist, and she closed the chapter of her earthly life last Saturday evening at 8:30 p.m. The funeral was held at the Methodist church Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., Rev. G. C. Lusted officiating, and interment was in Oak Hill cemetery."
