First, I give, devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Harriet L Gilbert, all that portion of the north half of the north west quarter of section eight (8) and all that portion of the south half of the south west quarter of section five all in township no ninety five (95) in range no four (4) west of the 5th p.m. in Clayton county Iowa, that lies on the West and North West side of the main road running through the same, as it is now used and traveled, and leading from north McGregor to Monona and known as road no.10, old series, which shall be in lieu of all her dower right or interest in all of my lands- Second, To my son Egbert V Gilbert, I give and devise and bequeath the southwest quarter of the north west quarter of Section eight (8) in township no ninety five (95) in range no four (4) west of the 5th p.m. in Clayton County Iowa, the same to be free and clear to him and not subject to the payment of debts or expenses of the settlement of my estate, or other expenses, and which shall be in lieu of all his interest in my real estate. I also give and bequeath to him one gray mare colt, one year old last fall, and being part Norman. Third. To my son Frank Gilbert, I have already given from five to seven hundred dollars out of my property which is in full of his share of my estate, and I therefore make no further provision for him. Fourth. To my son Elbridge L. Gilbert, I give my fur overcoat. Fifth, To my son Charles T Gilbert, I give my silver watch and chain. Sixth, To my daughter Alice Gilbert, I give my organ. Seventh, To my children Elbridge L Gilbert, Charles T Gilbert, Amelia E Veach, Lafayette Gilbert, George L Gilbert, Alice Gilbert, Frederick Gilbert, and Mary Gilbert, I give devise and bequeath all of the residue and remainder of my estate, both real and personal subject however to the payment of all my debts and funeral expenses, including a suitable tombstone to be erected at my grave, and also subject to a sufficient and appropriate amount to be set apart by the court for the support of my wife, and my children under fifteen years of age: for the period of one year from the time of my death. Eighth, I direct that my executor procure a tombstone to be erected at my grave, not to exceed in value, the sum of sixty dollars, and that he consult and observe the wishes of my wife, as to its design. Ninth, I hereby appoint Elijah Boley as the executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made. Witness my hand this 10th day of June a.d. 1877. Lovell R Gilbert The foregoing instrument was at the date thereof subscribed by Lovell R Gilbert in our presence, and he at the same time declared the same to be his last will and testament, and at his request we signed our names as witnesses thereto, both in his presence and in the presence of each other.
