Baylis- Huntington, Long Island, was the birthplace of William H. Baylis, who was born September 6, 1840, Mr. Baylis came to Wheatland, Iowa, in 1868, and he was assistant postmaster there four years. During the Civil War he was obliged to remain at home and take care of his family and mother. When the Wheatland postmaster was elected to the legislature, he was made postmaster, and at the same time he published The Enterprise, a weekly newspaper. Later he moved to Cedar Rapids where he is bailiff in Court Room No. 2, over which Judge Dawley presides.
