E. Foster. She began the study of law and was admitted to the bar in 1872. Very early in her career she became interested in the Woman’s Temperance Union and was one of the militant trail makers. Because of her zeal for people on the under side she was appointed an inspector of conditions under which women and children worked and at one time was sent to Russia to study conditions there. She died in 1910, one of the best known women campaigners in the world. –Estelle Goodwin LePrevost Youle, History of Clinton County, Iowa, 1948.
