Box Charlotte; was born near Montreal, Canada, in 1840; came to Clinton County with his parents, Cornelius and Margaret Spain, and settled in Waterford Township. In 1875, Mr. Spain married Miss Margaret, daughter of Alexander and Jane Stuart, early settlers of Waterford Township; they have one child, Mary Jane; in 1875 Mr. Spain was elected a member of the Board of Township Trustees, an office he has held up to this time, being the chairman of the Board at this time; has also filled various offices; in all public enterprises he has taken an active part. Cornelius and Margaret are members of the Immaculate Conception Church at Petersville. Mr. Spain owns 152 acres of well improved land; he is a Democrat. Mr. Spain's father died in 1871; his mother is still living.
