He took his position at the target and Peterson hit him, but as no pain was felt the young man thought the ball had simply struck the clothing and fallen to the ground. They remained together a short time, then went to their homes, During the night Meyers felt some pains and in a few days died from the wound. Peterson paid the doctor’s bill and funeral expenses and the friends of the dead boy seemed satisfied, but Tuesday the grand jury returned an indictment against Peterson for manslaughter.
