Austin Riley escaped from the jail at DeWitt, last week. He broke the padlock 
of the inner door, and either picked the lock of  the outer door  or had a key 
to fit it. He had been sentenced to five years in the penitentiary for 
stealing property at Lyons, in Clinton county. Sheriff Buchanan has offered a 
reward of $250 for his capture. Riley is an Irishman, about 35 years old, 
nearly six feet high, sandy complexion with a scar on his back, produced by a 
wound from a knife.
