Jan.4 - Herman Bruhn, Toronto’s oldest citizen, died in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gus Muhl, Thursday morning at the age of 95 years and 11 months. Death followed an attack of influenza with the infirmities of old age. Mr. Bruhn was born in Holstein, Germany, Jan 8, 1833 and was married to Miss Katharine Kahler in Germany in 1855. They came to America in 1866 and settled on a farm near Big Rock, where he resided until 24 years ago when he moved to Minnesota. In 1911 he returned to Toronto and for the past 16 years made his home with his daughter. Seven children were born to the union. Two and the wife preceded him in death. Five years ago Mr. Bruhn broke his hip and for he past three years he had been confined to his room. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Rudolph LaFrenz, Bloomfield, Neb.; Mrs. Jacob LaFrenz, Chinook, Mont.; Mrs. Julius Muhl and Mrs. Gus Muhl, Toronto; a son James Bruhn, Bloomfield, Neb., 18 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gus Muhl, at 1:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon. Burial will be in the family lot in Pine Hill cemetery near Wheatland.
