He had left DeWitt a month before for ill health. Mr. Byrne was born in Ireland, came to America in 1826 and to DeWitt in 1864. His age was 80 years, 7 months and 16 days. In 1856 Mr. Byrne was jailer under Sheriff W. H. Buchanan and afterward moved to Washington township and was Justice of the Peace. He moved to Kansas in April, 1871. While there he made his home with his son-in-law, Ed. F. Vaughn. Mr. Byrne's remains arrived in DeWitt for interment. Services were held at the Catholic church, Rev. T. McCormick officiating. The burial took place at the Catholic cemetery.
