DIED- 
Hatfield-At his home in Maquoketa, Thursday morning, May 12th, 1887, of blood 
poisoning caused by yellow jaundice, Nathan Hatfield, age 71 years, 3 months. 
Mr. Hatfield is a pioneer of this area, removing from Wyoming County, New 
York, to Clinton County, Iowa, south of Maquoketa in 1844, residing there 
until 1873 when he built a residence on South Main Street in Maquoketa, where 
he has resided since. His wife, whom he married in 1839, survives him. An only 
child, a boy, was born to them and died in his youth. They have several 
adopted children who are married, one of whom is Mrs. Newton Dunlap. Mr. 
Hatfield was a man highly esteemed by all of his large circle of friends and 
relatives. He had been through life industriou and frugal, thereby 
accumulating considerable money and property. The funeral took place Sunday 
afternoon from the house, Rev. McIntyre officiating. His remains were interred 
in the Union Church cemetery four miles south of Maquoketa. A large cocourse 
of people attended the funeral.
