Funeral services at the home were conducted Saturday by Rev. Godermann of the German Reform Church of Wheatland and were largely attended nothwithstanding the weather which was rainy throught the day. Interment was at the Union Cemetery south of Maquoketa. Christian Miller was born in Holstein, Germany, April 12, 1861, and he was aged 53 years, 1 month and 28 days at his death. Mr. Miller was twice married. His first wife was Elizabeth Franks, to whom he was united in marriage in 1885 in Germany. In 1887 they immigrated to this country and settled near Charlotte, Iowa. Later they moved to Jackson County and thence back to Clinton County 15 years ago. The last three years of his life was spent on the farm immediately adjoining Lost Nation. To his first union were born nine children, two of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are twins William and Nancy, Freda, Etta, Ella, Rudolph and Hulda, in the order of their ages. In April, 1912, Mr. Miller espoused Johanna Rasmun. This union was without issue. In March last he suffered a stroke of paralysis, but recovered. Ten days ago he had acute suffering and took to his bed until the final summons. In the death of Mr. Miller the community lost an honored and useful citizen.
