Foley, 87, Clinton, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Clinton. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Catholic Cemetery, Clinton. Clinton AMVETS will conduct military services at the burial. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at Lemke Funeral Home, Clinton. A vigil will be conducted at 4 p.m. and a rosary recited at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Foley died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at Harbor Crest Home, Fulton, Ill. He worked for 34 years at Chicago North Western Railroad. He retired in 1980. After that, he worked for 11 years for a Ford auto dealer. He was born Oct. 7, 1915, in Nevada, Iowa. He married Irene Thomas in 1945 in Ames. During World War II, he was in the U.S. Army. He was a staff sergeant with the famous "Hell on Wheels" 2nd Armored Division. He was a platoon sergeant in charge of the trucks that hauled gasoline to the front lines to refill armored tanks. He served from Fort Benning, Ga., to Berlin, and was in seven battles and earned two commendations and a Bronze Star. Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice or Mercy Home Care. Survivors include his wife, Irene; daughter, Ann Foley, Davenport; sons, Bill, Fulton, James, Orange Park, Fla., Michael, Colorado, and Daniel "Beaver," Belle Plaine; and 10 grandchildren. She was born May 20, 1916, in Charlotte, Iowa, the daughter of John W. and Mabel (Borden) Dickey. Matilda's family includes her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Jack Hotaling, Glenview, Ill.; her son and daughter-in-law, David and Lynn Hilmers, Houston, Texas; four grandsons, Christopher (and Keri), Hotaling, Rhodi Hotaling, Matthew Hilmers and Daniel (and Amy) Hilmers; five sisters, Ella Manley, Clinton, Iowa, Jane Smith, Dallas, Texas, Elizabeth (Mrs. Clarence) Kettler, Sarasota, Fla., Sarena Weyeneth, Roanoke, Ill., and Mary (Mrs. Bill) Goodale, DeWitt; and two brothers, John Dickey, Fulton, Ill., and Randall Dickey, Charlotte. Matilda was preceded in death by her parents. Above all else, she loved her family. Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery, Clinton. Matthew Martens and Mr. Bill Michaelsen officiating. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Chandler died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center-North Campus, Clinton. Mary Lou was born March 3, 1927, in Clinton, the daughter of Edward and Matilda (Hansen) Nixon. She married Leslie "Bud" Chandler on Sept. 30, 1944, in Clinton. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1945. She had been employed by the Clinton public school system and retired from Clinton Garment Co. in 1982. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, past matron of Lyons Chapter Order of Eastern Star, member of Clinton Order of Eastern Star, past mother advisor of Rainbow Girls 109 in Lyons and charter member of Master of Rainbow of Colors. She also was a past president of the Past Matrons Electa Club, member of Clinton White Shrine, past president of Baldwin PTA, former Brownie troop leader at Baldwin School and past president of Friday Nite Bowling League at Clinton Recreation Lanes. Memorials may be made to the family. Surviving are her husband, Leslie "Bud"; daughters, Pamela (Mrs. Ric) Pike, Clinton, and Sandra Green, LeClaire; a grandson, Brian K. Hardy; great-granddaughter, Brianna Fay Hardy, and great-grandson, Blake Kirkland Hardy; sisters, Edith June Fowler, Sterling, Ill., and Nancy (Mrs. James) Cavaletti, Spring Valley, Ill.; brothers, Wayne E. "Gene" Nixon, Clinton, and Kenneth E. Nixon, Elmont Springs, Fla.; an aunt, Hazel Nixon, Clinton; and cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Charles Kenneth Chandler, in infancy. Hernandez, 79, Dewitt, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Manor Care, Davenport. A private family memorial service will be held. The body has been cremated. Runge Mortuary, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. She was a homemaker. Margaret Spencer was born May 9, 1923, in Chicago. She married Joe Hernandez. He preceded her in death. Survivors include daughters; Judy Goldbeck, Dewitt, Barbara Sweitzer, Mt Carroll, Ill., Antonia Magro, Alexandria, Va; eight grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren. Clausen, 95, Clinton, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church, Clinton. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation is 3-6 p.m. Wednesday at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. Mr. Clausen died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton. He was employed as an assistant postmaster at the U.S. Postal Service, Clinton, for 28 years. He retired in 1970. He was born Aug. 6, 1907, in Belle Plaine. He married Esther Kroemer in 1934 in Stanwood. She died in 1999. During World War II, he served with the Navy in the Aleutian Islands. Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church General Fund or Lutheran Bible Translators. Survivors include a daughter, Judith Vocke, Valparaiso, Ind.; son, Alan, Denver; five grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; brother, Henry, Mesa, Ariz.; half sisters, Florence Finch, of Ohio, and Fern Schubert, Clinton; and five half brothers. Manning, 82, DeWitt, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at Westwing Place, DeWitt. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Visitation is 3- 8 p.m. Wednesday at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. He was born Nov. 2, 1919, in rural Clinton County. He married Norma Behrens in 1945 in Clinton. They farmed six years at Petersville and 39 years north of DeWitt. They retired in 1982. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Ministries or VNA Hospice. Survivors include his wife, Norma; daughters, Nancy Reser, Bristow, and Luanne Heaton, Ohio, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and sisters, Alice Bull, Clinton, Dolorosa Petersen, DeWitt, and Dorothy Tholen, Rock Falls, Ill. A vigil will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. McNie died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Wyndcrest Nursing Home, Clinton. She was a registered nurse at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and later with Dr. R.E. Dwyer's office as well as private practice. Mary Lawlor was born March 14, 1907, in Victor. She married Robert McNie in the mid-1930s. Survivors include a daughter, Nadine "Nan" Olson, Sioux Falls, S.D.; son, Jim, Clinton; and brother, Daniel Lawlor, Clinton. Stillings, 83, Clinton, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton. According to her wishes, the body will be cremated. Inurnment will be Wednesday in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Nelson Heesch Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Stillings worked 20 years in food service at DuPont. Betty Jones was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Clinton. She married Miller "Mike" Venem in 1942. She married Ralph Stillings in 1978 in Clinton. Memorials may be made to the care facility. Survivors include her husband, Ralph; son, Donald Venem, Lake Tahoe, Calif.; stepsons, Michael and Kevin Stillings , both of Clinton, and Steven Stillings, Conway, Ark.; stepdaughters, Sue Kane, Cabool, Mo., and Karen Matuszak, Leawood, Kan.; five step-grandchildren; and eight step-great- grandchildren. DeSaw, 62, Portland, Ore., formerly of Clinton, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Clinton. Visitation is one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery, Bryant. Mrs. DeSaw died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at her home, after a 12-year battle with cancer. Lemke Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements. She was employed until her illness as a computer operator. Donna Petersen was born May 3, 1940, in Iowa City. She married Donald DeSaw in 1972 in Gardenia, Calif. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include her husband, Donald; son, Kevin, Portland; stepson, Blair DeSaw, Long Valley, N.J.; sisters, Darlene Coder, Clinton, Shirley Smith, Anacortes, Wash., and June Houser, Waukesha, Wis.; and brothers, Richard and Larry Petersen, both of Clinton, and Kenneth Petersen, Morrison, Ill.
