Jackson Sentinel, Nov. 29, 1877
Jackson Sentinel of Nov. 29, 1877. The death notice states:

Last Friday Jonas Smith, an old and esteemed resident of Clinton County, died 
at Delmar. On Monday of last week he was taken sick, but on Friday he had 
recovered sufficiently to get up and be shaved. Five minutes after he was 
shaved he had a stroke of paralysis from the effects of which he died.
