Riessen Date: 6 Mar 2003 1:55 AM GMT Surnames: Jahn Kutschinski Goodall Mills Kelley Cleaver Friedrichs Lee Schultz Classification: Obituary Elmer Carl Kutschinski was born June 13, 1910, the son of Carl and Louise Jahn Kutschinski. He died on February 17, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at the age of 92. Elmer was born and raised on the family farm north of Charter Oak, Iowa. He was baptized and later confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church. He received his education at Charter Oak Township rural school District 5 and St. John's Lutheran School. Elmer devoted his entire life to the family farm in Charter Oak which continues to be operated by his daughters and Allan Neddermeyer. On December 8, 1939 Elmer married Thelma Goodall of Mapleton, Iowa at St. John's Lutheran Church. The couple continued living on the family farm and were blessed with the birth of four children; Frances, Sandra, Gail and Roxann. He farmed until retiring in 1973 at which time he moved to town. In his retirement he enjoyed playing cards with neighbors and friends. Elmer also enjoyed his many visits to see children and grandchildren in Colorado, Arizona, Arkansas and Nevada. Elmer was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Crawford County Farm Bureau and one of the founders of the Charter Oak Senior Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma; one son, Gail; two brothers, Ernest and Arthur Kutschinski; and two sisters, Erna Friedrichs and Olinda Schultz. Survivors include three daughters, Frances Mills of Phoenix, Arizona, Sandra Kelley and her husband, Michael of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Roxann Kutschinski and her husband, John Cleaver of Ft. Collins, Colorado; five grandchildren, Robert Armstrong, Christine Woodard, Kevin Kelley, Bonnie Cleaver and Sean Cleaver; one great-grandson, Trey Woodard; one brother, Alvin Kutschinski and his wife, Dorothy, one sister, Irene Lee and her husband, Francis, all of Charter Oak, Iowa; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2003, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. L.C. Gebhardt officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. Art Beeck provided the organ accompaniment for Michelle Ahrenholtz singing, "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me". Honorary pallbearers were Wilbur Kuhlmann, Paul Kuhlmann, Herman Garbe, Edgar Glockzien, Orville Riessen and Harwin Jess. Those serving as pallbearers were Allan Neddermeyer, Don Friedrichs, Earl Schultz, Kyle Schultz, Bruce Lee and Bill Magill. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
