Death came without warning. His immediate family, consisting if his wife, son, Richard and daughter, Alice were at home when death came. John Mount was born in Yorkshire, England, October 31, 1857, the son of Richard and Ann Mount. At the Age of six months he came with his parents to America, first making their home in Iowa County, about two miles south of the town of Amana, where the family resided until 1881, when they moved to Crawford County and settled on a farm two miles south of Charter Oak. In 1887 < mistype?>, Mr. Mount was united in marriage with Miss Harriet Taylor of Mapleton, Iowa and to this union four children were born, namely: Glenn, who died at the age of three months; Clara, who passed away September 21, 1928; and Richard and Alice at home. After coming to Denison, the Mounts lived with his father for a time and in later years erected a fine modern home in which they took much comfort, and where they resided for many years. The deceased had been an active of the Odd Fellows lodge in Denison for 33 years, and was the recipient of a 30-year gold jewel, presented to him by the order. He religiously affiliated with the Presbyterian church of Denison, and attended the services regularly. For many years Mr. Mount was a heavy dealer in real estate, and at one time was possessed of more than 1,500 acres of land in South Dakota, and considerable acreage in Iowa. He was a shrewd trader, and when making a deal, relied upon his own judgement rather than on others. When the price of land began to decline, Mr. Mount was unable to unload his extensive holdings, and he suffered sever loss. He was a kindly gentleman, a home lover and took much interest in the affairs of the nation, state and county.
