He was taken down suddenly Saturday with apoplexy, rendering him unconscious from which he never rallied and kept gradually sinking until he passed gently away in the presence of his grief stricken family. He had been thrown from a wagon about two weeks ago which probably helped to bring on this other trouble. The deceased was born in the county Tipperary, Ireland, Dec. 18, 1833, and came to America in 1850. He remained but a short time in the east and with the tide of emigration he started on his long trip to the west, arriving in Des Moines when but a lad of 18. His object in coming to the west in those pioneer days was the same as that which had induced thousands of other young, ambitious Irishment - to develop the country and build up a home. About 15 years ago Mr. Dooley settled on his fine farm five miles southwest of town, where himself and family have since made their home. During all that time he had gained the esteem of his neighbors by his noble qualities and sterling integrity and was held in high regard by all who knew him. Generous hearted and kind, a host of old time friends will read the news of his death with deep regret. He leaves to mourn his loss, besides his loving wife, two sons and three daughters. These are Edward, Timothy, Margaret, Mary and Mrs. Hannah McLees. His oldest son, John, died two years ago. The funeral will be held from St. Patrick's Catholic church Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Father Cleary officiating. Additional Comments: His wife was Margaret Graney.
