The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 from the Catholic church. The death of James Graney marks the passing of another pioneer of the community, and the news of his death will bring sadness to the homes of a large circle of friends and acquaintances. He was 79 years of age and had made his home in the vicinity of Perry for so long that he was one of the best known citizens. He has been in poor health for the past two years and of recent weeks has been failing rapidly. His death, while not a surprise to his intimate friends, is not the less sad, and calls forth the sympathy of all to the relatives. Mr. Graney was born in the County Carey (sic - s/b Kerry), Ireland, and came to this part of the county in 1855. Since that time he has been identified with the growth of the community and worked hard that his family might enjoy the blessings of his adopted country. He was married to Miss Marg (sic - s/b Mary) Hogan, and to them five children were born. They are: Mrs. Dan McCarthy, Mrs. Gus Kasbohm, Miss Kate Graney, Mrs. P. H. O'Conner, and Mrs. J. J. Shields. The wife and mother passed away about ten years ago. About twelve years ago the family moved to Perry from their farm south of town. Mrs. Granney's death followed shortly after and Mr. Graney has made his home at Third and Pattee streets, his daughter Kate Graney, being the companion of her father in his declining years. The funeral will be held from St. Patrick's church, of which Mr. Graney was a devoted member on Thursday morning at 10:30. - - - Friday, January 15, 1909 (type-o on front page of paper shows year as 1908) Last Tribute to James Graney Many Friends and Relatives Pay Tribute to Memory of Man Well and Favorably Known. The funeral services of James Graney were held Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the Catholic church, the sermon being preached by Rev. Father Cleary. Many friends and a large number of relatives joined in showing the esteem in which the deceased was held and the church was filled by those gathered to pay the last tribute to a man well known and respected by all. James Graney was born in County Carie (sic - s/b Kerry), Ireland, in 1830, being 79 years, three months and twelve days old (9/30/1829). At the age of 19 he came to this country and located in Indiana, where he lived for several years. In May 1857, he was married to Mary Hogan, who passed away a number of years ago. Four daughters and one son are left to mourn the loss of a just and honorable father. They are: Mrs. Ellen McCarthy, Mrs. Mary Kasbohm, Mrs. Margaret O'Conner, Mrs. Julia Shields, Miss Kate Graney and Edward P. Graney**. There are also twenty-nine grand children and three great grandchildren. The sister Mrs. Margaret Dooley, and one brother, John Graney, of Des Moines, survive him. Adel News - - - January 28, 1909 State of Iowa, Dallas county, ss District court in and for Dallas county: To whom it may concern: Whereas, on the 16th day of January A. D. 1909, a paper purporting to be the last will and testament of James Graney; late of said county, deceased, was filed in my office and was by me opened and read, and the 16th day of March 1909, at 1 :30 p.m. appointed and fixed as teh time when the same will come before court, at the March term them to be held, as the duly executed last will and testament of the said James Graney, deceased, at which time all persons interested may appear and show cause why the same shoule not be admitted to probate. Dated this 18th day of January, 1909. M. J.
