His death was caused by peritonitis brought about by a fall on the walk in front of the 4th street engine house a week ago last night. He was born and raised in Dubuque where he was well and favorably known. He was formerly engaged in mining and was at the time of his death the local agent of the Eulberg Brewing Co., of Galena. Last summer he bought a home in West Dubuque, but recently removed to 840 Locust street. He was married to Miss Ella Dempsey about seven years ago, and leaves besides his wife, two small children. He was a brother-in-law of Alderman Smola whose wife attended the funeral.
