THE HUNDRED-DAY MEN. The Forty-fourth, Forty-fifth, Forty-sixth and Forty-seventh regiments were known as One-Hundred-Day men, that being the term of service for which they were enlisted. They were assigned to garrison duty, enabling the older soldiers to go forward to the field of more active service. The one-hundred-day men, however, did as good service to the cause of the Union as those who took an active part in the most famous battles of the war. FIRST CAVALRY.
