Mr. Johnson and his men were preparing to stack hay and in raising the poles used to carry the fork, one of the poles slipped from the ground and swinging about truck Mr. Johnson on one temple, crushing his skull. Dr. Griffin of Floyd was summoned and he in turn sent for Dr. Kober of this city and both physicians were on the ground as early as possible and spent two or three hours in an effort to restore the injured man to consciousness, but without avail, and he died a few hours after being struck down. The lung motor was sent out from this city, but its use availed nothing. Mr. Johnson was a man about 50 years of age and was one the best known farmers of his section. Besides a wife, he leaves a family of five daughters and two sons to mourn his untimely death. We understand that Mr. Johnson carried $2,000 life insurance in the Modern Woodman of America. He migrated to the US in 1874 and settled with his brother Edward north of Floyd, Floyd Co., IA.
