January 1949 Charles City Daily Press ED SHAPLEY DIES SATURDAY Floyd -- Ed Shapley, 65, long time resident of this community, died suddenly at 5 pm Saturday, Jan. 1, 1949, from a heart attack suffered at the Ralph Brown farm near here, where he had been staying. Mr. Shapley was helping with the farm chores when he was stricken. He was rushed to a Floyd physician's office where he died. He had heart trouble for several years and this was the last of a number of heart attacks. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Milton (Violet) Heffron of Cedar Twp; a son, Keith Shapley of Greene; three grandchildren, a brother Carson Shapley of Floyd, and a sister , Mrs. Oscar Falls of Rudd. His wife, Myrtle Johnson Shapley died in 1932. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. The Rev. James K. Delahooke, pastor of the First Methodist church, will officiate with burial in Oakwood cemetery. Additional Comments: Edward Walter Shapley was born 13 Aug 1883 to Henry C and Mary Rice Shapley.
