He came to the United States aboard the ship Eugenie in 1868 and settled in Fond du Lac, WI. In 1874 the family moved to Iowa. On 2/23/1888, he married Bertha Willimina Korth and they moved to Orlando, FL for a number of years before moving back to Morgan township to live until 1916, when they moved to Earl, WI.Three children, Adelia, Leonard and Emil preceded him in death along with his wife, who died 24 years ago. Survivors include Adolph of Dows, IA.; Arthur, Leo, Walter and Mrs. Lulu Holt of Earl, WI., Gustave of Shell Lake, WI, Mrs. Martha Thomas of Faribault, MN and Mrs. Hilda Thomsen of Madison, WI. Also 22 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Others include 2 brothers, Albert of Baker, MN. and John of Los Angeles, CA. Burial was in Morgan Cemetery east of Dows, IA.
